By Limiting The Cost Of An Uncontested Divorce Georgia Couples Need Not Suffer Financially

By Raymond Wright

Social scientists lament the fact that so many families are torn apart by marriages that fall apart. There used to be a time when divorces were deemed to be social scandals and divorced people were often shunned socially. This is definitely not the case anymore. Divorces have become commonplace and the courts dealing with divorces are jam packed with pending cases. Thousands of lawyers deal with nothing but divorces. By thinking about the much lower cost of an uncontested divorce Georgia couples can save a lot of money.

The fact is that contested divorces can be extremely expensive. Each partner will need a separate lawyer and the longer they take to negotiate an agreement, the higher the cost will be, especially when the matter is heard in court. A contested case can easily end up in ruining both partners financially. In addition, the proceedings are open for public scrutiny.

Divorces are never joyful affairs but reasonable couples can do much to lessen the trauma involved. It is true that many important decisions needs to be made regarding the division of their assets and many other matters, but this need not be done in an open court with lawyers trying their best to prolong the case. Reasonable couples can act in an adult manner and resolve all issues privately.

Even when the divorcing couple resolves to separate in an amicable manner and to discuss issues in a reasonable way they still need professional help. Each partner has certain rights and their final agreement must honor the rights of each party and comply with the various laws governing divorces. In a case that is not contested, only one lawyer needs to be hired, however.

It is not commonly known that there is, in fact, no legal requirement that a lawyer has to be involved in a divorce case. Divorcing couples can make use of counselors that are licensed and trained to draw up legal separation documents. They can help couples to come to the decisions that they need to make, draw up the required agreement and present it to the courts for official endorsement. Their services are much cheaper than those of lawyers.

Professionals such as attorneys and counselors charge for their time. Divorcing couples can therefore lower the cost of the process even further by involving the professional as little as possible. This can be done by privately agreeing to all important matters and to then just leave it to the professional to draw up the legal documents and to present them to court. Again, this requires both partners to be reasonable.

Experts agree that everything possible should be done to save a marriage but if this is not possible, couples should at least seriously consider the consequences of an acrimonious separation. If the case is not contested by either partner, they can both save a huge amount of money and they can spare themselves and their loved ones a considerable amount of stress and trauma.

It is certainly sad that so many marriages end up in the gutter. It is a fact of life, however, and at least sensible couples can make sure that they do not hurt each other, their children and their loved ones in the process. There is no need to cause divorces to destroy lives and to become the reason for long term strife.
