The Roles That Jewish Bet Din Play In The Society

By Virginia Parker

Across the globe, people were born in different environments, tradition, culture, religion and with different people. Obviously, all were not born in one place which will explain the behavior and personality of a person when growing up. They often acquire this from the religion they are in and their adaption of its culture which mostly or sometimes should be emulated.

There are lots of religious courts that operate everyday in different parts of Earth. One of these courts is the Jewish bet din which differ many things from other religions. This court is mainly for the issues and other matters of Jewish men.

Many churches manage a routine on a daily basis. For example, the Roman Catholic church alone consist of 200 diocesan adjudicators or well known as the tribunals who handle variety of issues and cases of an estimation of 15,000 to 20,000 annulments each year. On the other hand, Orthodox Jews make use of rabbinical court to manage marriage divorces and could settle disputes concerning particular issues with their fellow men.

If some are not aware of this, beth din is a Jewish civil or religious court of the law or other known as house of judgment. The exercise originates in from the ancient days on the land of Israel. This is still executed today. This court would manage many things but centers on only one matter.

Each person in Judaism has a different path and unlike any other religions, their law states that it should be able to confirm the sincerity of a Jew. They were not just born and live life to the fullers regardless of which religious group they belong. They are taught to study and practice its essence to fulfill their duties as a follower of one.

Beth din is often the part where a clergy and a candidate would meet for conversion. Conversion would concentrate on the sincerity of a person. The questions will focus on journey of a Jew, his plans, expectations for the future, and further learning of its teachings. In order to attain this, rituals are also necessary to be done.

Some might wonder what are the other significant roles of beit din. Today, one of these big roles may involve supervising marriage divorces. This is important for a Jewish couple to settle divorce papers and other files or known as get since their marriage would still be valid although they obtained civil divorce. If one of them cannot present the get, neither will be able to marry again.

The wife must also not bear another child from another jewish man without official gittin. Since it is very significant to obtain a get, married people should be supervised by a clergy of beth din who is respected in the Orthodox society. These people can also coordinate with other rabbis for difficult cases like spouses who are in long distance.

There is a bunch of roles this thing plays in the society. Many tend to think that this is not right since divorce is not a thing in that and this. Obviously, these men have different beliefs however each religion shares a big part not just in one nation, in the whole planet as well. To make Earth a greater place to live, respect should be given to each.
