Cooking Styles Are Considered When Designing Custom BBQ Pits

By Stella Gay

People that enjoy cooking foods on grills outdoors can exude a lot of pressure on people that are responsible for building the grills from a plan that the owner designed. Once started, customers will ask builders to give weekly updates on the completion date of the custom BBQ pits, and these people will get excited as that date approaches. All measurements will be tripled checked to ensure that each part will fit together in the final design.

Since these units will ultimately become the center for many cookouts and family gatherings, the design will have to take into account how seating for guests will be arranged and how those arrangements will cause hazards. Customizing the pit could also require the removal of earth because some areas will be used to smoke meat in an open pit environment similar to those found at Hawaii.

Customizing each part used in the unit allows the workers to give the customer the features they have always dreamed about. Logos may be imprinted on the metals or welds are made so that all sides of the unit appear to be made without seams. Some additional work will need to be done to create tailgate units because these styles will be welded onto a trailer bed.

Owners can select a variety of switches to use on the units during the cooking cycle. Levers can be installed that will control the output of smoke that will be used to smoke meats in a smoker. Other control levers will allow the cook to control cooking temperatures while meats are on the grill top, and gauges will be conveniently located that will display the temperatures of all surfaces that cook foods.

Based on customer needs, the pit area is often designed to emit a rugged appearance, or the metals can be trimmed and polished to create a refined look. Each finished piece is a work of art that will stand up against changing weather conditions that occur throughout the year. The units design will also serve as a fire pit that will emit warmth to guests on cold evenings.

Alternate sources of fuel can be utilized in each unit based on the type of connections that are put in place throughout the unit. The pit can be rigged for cooking foods using large pieces of wood or the owner could place charcoal briquettes on the platforms that can be inserted in the pit. Some cooks prefer to use propane or natural gas and those connectors can be equipped with quick release valves.

Some design modifications will cause delays to occur and delivery dates are missed. Some cooking options that the customer wants to have will require parts that must be special ordered. The finished product will be well worth the wait, especially when the customer gets all the features that they desired.

The construction of each unit piece can usually be staggered and arranged in an order that is based on the cooking style of the owner. The units are often constructed with stacks that are rigged with panels that will open and close at will. This design addition will ensure that smoke densities are maintained at the proper levels while ensuring that internal temperatures are maintained at an appropriate level.
