Kosher Jewish Christian Interfaith Wedding

By Michelle Robinson

It is the beginning of a new future together and when making preparations for that special day, it is best not to get too stressed out over it. Jewish Christian Interfaith Wedding is a need in these days and times as intermingling of people of different faiths has become the norm unlike years ago when marriages were arranged between families. Pleasing those guests who will be attending is a matter of course and one should do some research as to what is permissible and what is not.

The meaning of the word kosher is simply put, all those foodstuffs that can be consumed and those that cannot. For instance, meat and milk may not be consumed together and a religious Jew will have to wait six hours as is customary before eating milk after meat. One does not have to delve too deeply into this but must be aware of some of its laws especially should the spouse be a Jew or Jewess.

It is best to be aware that one should choose what types of foods will be served as Jews are not allowed, according to kosher laws, to mix meat a milk products together. Fish served as a starter to a main meal of meat is allowed so the options are endless as to what one can serve. A caterer would know this and be certified by a Jewish Court of Law or Beth Din as it is called, as to what is permissible and what is not.

This really sums up the kosher laws in a nutshell and again, a caterer who will be catering will already have suggestions in place that one can ponder over. If some of the guests are going to be more fussy than usual, it is best to get in caterers that are accredited by a Beth Din or Court of Law. These will be equipped to serve food in keeping with all the laws and dictates of what constitutes kosher food and not.

Then there is the ceremony itself and the procedures that are adhered to even as it would be carried out for Orthodox Jews. Here again it is best to speak to a Rabbi who will be officiating the ceremony as to how it will run. One could include a Chuppah or canopy that is typical of a marriage ceremony and is a beautiful addition to be had.

It is a sentimental touch that may want to be included in the proceedings and is a regular sight at any wedding of this kind. If not sure what this actually is, it is best to go online and do a search entering the words pictures of a chuppah. There are many different ways of designing one and one can really go to town with this in producing a thing of beauty.

If unsure of the intricacies a Rabbi should be consulted with. It is all a matter of choice but getting involved in the dos and do nots is advisable. Many guests will not be too phased about this but will enjoy the touches one has added from both religions.

With intermingling of faiths today this has become quite common. It is not surprising that many are going the Jewish route when it comes to making wedding preparations. Remember, to have fun on this special day.
